Martial arts gear
As we moved through the ranks and tests within Anjing Banfa, there are sets of equipment or (Martial Arts Gear) which were required. At some point this included ponchos, sleep gear, water bladders, etc. Some of our group would get the gear and just leave it in a big bag with their martial arts gear.
Living in Southern California, earthquakes are a reality we all must prepare for. After doing some research I found that most of the suggested gear for earthquake preparedness was already in my Anjing Banfa equipment. In fact, preparing to be better equipped martial artists made us adjust our thought processes to be ready to face many challenges – even those Mother Nature occasionally throws our way.
Most people begin buying the least expensive, smallest gear they can find thinking this makes life easier – less to carry. Do not fall into this trap. If the gear is worth having, you should get something you can count on. For example, you can buy a thin plastic poncho about the size of a pack of index cards. These are fine to keep on hand, but know they will be ineffective after a very short period. Isn’t it better to carry a good quality poncho that you can count on as a rain coat AND as a field expedient shelter? In the end, trying to save money by acquiring lesser quality gear was truly wasting money as we ended up buying better gear when we understood the breadth of the requirement.
